What are kidney stones?
Chemicals in urine create hard objects, or kidney stones. Urine carries dissolved waste material. The crystallization process occurs when small amounts of liquid carries too much waste.
Crystals join with other elements in solid formations that may grow over time if not expelled through the urine. Kidneys eliminate these chemicals through the urine. These organs are often referred to as ‘the body’s master chemists.’
Proper amount of liquid flushes the chemicals out, and thus prevents the formation of kidney stones. Calcium, oxalate, urate, cysteine, xanthine, and phosphate are the chemicals that participate in the formation of stones.
